How we can help you

Our role is to promote and protect victims’ rights in Queensland. This means it is our job to:

  • let you know about your rights if you are a victim of a violent crime that happened in Queensland
  • listen to you if you think your rights haven’t been respected by:
    • making a complaint to us
    • asking us a question about your rights
    • giving us feedback on your experiences.

We can investigate your complaint about Queensland Government and some government-funded services.

What we can’t do

We can only investigate complaints where you believe a government or non-government agency has not upheld your rights.

We cannot investigate a complaint that is not about your rights being breached.

We are not a support service and cannot case manage your experience through a criminal justice process.

We cannot:

  • provide crisis support – in an emergency call 000 or search for a 24/7 crisis service
  • provide financial assistance – visit Victim Assist Queensland
  • help you to report a crime to Police – in an emergency call 000 or find out other ways to report a crime
  • investigate an alleged crime
  • change the outcome of a Police investigation or a court process
  • offer legal advice – visit Queensland Government’s website
  • offer direct support through a court process – contact PACT
