The Office of the Victims’ Commissioner wants to increase our connections with victims of crime throughout Queensland.
Some of the ways we are doing this is to form:
A Lived Experience Experts Panel that will meet regularly to advise the Commissioner in her work and
A Lived Experience Experts Network that will be a larger group consulted on an as-needs basis to provide feedback and guidance about the Commissioner’s work.
The Commissioner is inviting victims of crime to express their interest in being part of the Panel, the Network or both.
Victims of crime are invited from every region of Queensland, every background, and every experience of crime, irrespective of the criminal offence, or the reporting and prosecution of that offence.
People with a range of experience in advocating for victims of crime are sought, from being entirely new to the field through to having a long record of advocacy.
Expressions of interest will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Well-considered motivations for involvement and potential to advance those motivations through the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner.
- A sound record in advocacy as a victim of crime, or potential to develop this record.
- Capacity to meaningfully and collaboratively contribute to the priorities of the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner.
- Likelihood of providing expert and representative contributions to the work of the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner.
About the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner
The Victim’s Commissioner is independent to government and, supported by the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner, has important responsibilities to monitor, review and respond to matters affecting victims of crime. Our purpose is to ensure Queensland’s justice and victim support systems uphold the dignity and rights of victims of crime, within a culture of safety, transparency and accessibility.

The Lived Experience Experts Panel and Lived Experience Experts Network will assist the Commissioner in her work advocating for reform to better support and protect victims of crime.
For more information on the Panel and Network please see the draft Terms of Reference (link).
As the Panel and Network are new, its first members will play an important role in further refining and developing the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner’s engagement with victims of crime.
