Law and policy advice

The Victims’ Commissioner provides information and advice to government, parliamentary committees, law reform commissions and other bodies about victims’ rights and needs.

The Commissioner provides advice or recommendations in a few different ways:

  • in a written document called a submission
  • writing directly to a person
  • sharing a statement publicly through platforms like LinkedIn, the Media or speaking at events.

You can view the Commissioner’s submissions or statements on this page.

Parliamentary Committees

The Commissioner may provide a written submission and/or attend a parliamentary committee hearing to answer questions.

A parliamentary committee can examine proposed new laws or changes to laws (known as Bills), investigate issues of public importance, and consider whether policies or past decisions could be improved.
